Glucocorticoids (GCs) are extensively used in the treatment of acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) due to their ability to induce apoptosis by balancing the ratio between pro-or anti-apoptotic genes.Resistance to GCs induced apoptosis is the main obstacle in the effectiveness of this treatment.Mechanisms explaining the resistance to glucocorticoid mediated apoptosis include the variability of the glucocorticoid receptor (GR) protein levels, and isoforms as well as differential GR posttranslational modifications in resistant versus sensitive cells.
