Dopamine modulates the immune function by binding with dopamine receptors on the immune cells.Substantial dopamine product has been detected in the several tissues of gastrointestinal tract, such as dopaminergic neurons, lumen microbiota, epithelial cells and immune cells in the gut.The DA deficiency was tightly associated with immune system abnormalities and intestinal inflammation in the progression of Parkinson disease (PD).However, the regulation of dopamine on the gut immunity is not clear.
