　　Hydroponic cultures were used in the present study to compare the Al-tolerant abilities of different varieties of rice (Oryza sativa L.), including indica, japonica, and their hybrids.The results showed that the root growth of seedling was inhibited under Al exposure.Among 45 varieties of rice, Longjingg, Dharial, lgc-1, Ribenyou and Yueguang belonging to japonica were tolerant to Al stress according to the relative rate of root elongation (RRE) of rice exposed to 50 μmol·L-1 Al.
