The hydraulic structural and functional traits of a species determine its adaptation to climate and greatly define its distribution range. However, few studies have focused on hydraulic trait variation across species and especially their relationship with species distribution range. We measured hydraulic traits such as sapwood specific hydraulic conductivity(KS),stem embolism resistance, vessel lumen fraction, vessel size and density, ratio of vessel and fiber to ray parenchyma and phloem area in ten Quercus species grown in an arboretum, which are mainly distributed in East Asia, and tested whether the traits related to drought tolerance are coordinated with the climatic condition of their distribution ranges.
