Ground blast furnace slags (GBFS) and limestone powder mixed in appropriate proportions can be made into bi-component admixture.In this paper, the development of the pore system in the hardened cement paste, which contains a high-volume of the bi-component admixture, was studied using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and mercury intrusion porosimetry (MIP).Meanwhile, mechanical tests and the impermeability tests were performed on Roller-Compacted Concrete (RCC) contains the bi-component admixture.Experimental results showed that the bi-component admixture, similar with fly ash, can optimize the pore system in the paste with the increasing of hydration age.Also, the porosity of the hardened paste decreased and the percentage of the sound pores increased significantly, leading to an improvement of its density.In addition, the strength and the impermeability of the bi-component RCC was significantly improved.We confirm that the optimization function of the bi-component admixture on the pore system in paste is based on the hydration activity of GBFS and the filing effect of limestone powder.
