Cenozoic potassic and ultrapostassic volcanoes,from~60Ma to present time,widely spread in the Tibet plateau.These volcanoes provide chronological constraints on the age of uplift,as well as geochemical constraints to evaluate the models of mechanics for the Tibet plateau.Quaternary volcanoes are closely concerned with the hot debated issues of whether the latest uplift (after 3Ma or 5Ma) is significant or not.Ashikule volcano (Liu & Maimaiti,1990;Deng et al.,1991) is a typical Quaternary volcano in west Kunlun,north Tibet,and maybe the only active volcano in Tibet.
