Iridium(Ⅲ)complexes of general formula [Ir(bpy)2(N^N)Cl2],where N^N= 2-(pyrazin-2-yl)naphtho[1,2-e][1,2,4]triazine,1,or,2-(pyrazin-2-yl)aceanthryleno [1,2-e][1,2,4]triazine,2,can effectively kill cancer cells by triggering necroptosis,a nonapoptotic form of cell death in cisplatin-resistant cancer cells A549R.Detailed mechanistic studies suggest that 2 inhibits the activity of receptor interacting protein 1(RIP1)and receptor interacting protein 3(RIP3).Additionally,complex 2 induces necrosome-mediated propidium iodide(PI)uptake and mitochondrial membrane depolarization,as well as morphological changes consistent with necroptosis.
