Synthesis and characterization of nitrogen and sulfur-codoped Bi2WO6 photocatalyst

  In this paper, N and S codoped Bi2WO6 (denoted as N/S-BiWO) nanoarchitectures have been synthesized via a facile template-free hydrothermal process.The samples were characterized by XRD, XPS, FE-SEM, HR-TEM, UV-Vis-DRS, XPS, elemental analysis and photoluminescence spectrum (PL).The doping effect on the properties and photocatalytic activity of Bi2WO6 was investigated.The photocatalytic activity of N/S-BiWO is enhanced greatly compared with pure Bi2WO6.The PL intensity of N/S-BiWO is lower than that of pure Bi2WO6, which clearly indicates that the recombination ofphotogenerated charge carrier between the hybird orbital of Bi 6s and O2p (VB) to the W 5d orbital is greatly inhibited in the N/S-BiWO.On the basis of the calculated energy band positions and PL spectra, the mechanism of enhanced photocatalytic activity of N/S-BiWO has also been discussed.
