　　In this talk,we discuss on derivation of a reliable residual based a posteriori error estimator for the quadratic finite element method for the obstacle problem.The crux of the error analysis is involved in defining an appropriate Lagrange multiplier due to obstacle constraint.The numerical experiments of adaptive algorithm with Dorfler marking strategy shows optimal order convergence and illustrates that the quadratic adaptive fem is not suboptimal.
