　　In order to periodically inspect and properly maintain a large number of medium & short span bridges in Japan,it is necessary to develop a simple and efficient bridge monitoring system.The auther has been developing a new method of assessing the condition ofexisisting short-and medium-span bridges based on vibration monitoring data obtained from a public bus (Bus monitoring system; Figure 1).
