Diabetes is associated with oxidative stress, mitochondrial damage and cardiac dysfunction.Mitochondrial aldehyde dehydrogenase (ALDH2) has shown some promises in the protection against cardiovascular diseases although its role in diabetes has not been elucidated. This study was designed to evaluate the impact of ALDH2 on streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic cardiomyopathy.FVB and ALDH2 transgenic mice were treated with STZ (200 mg/kg.i.p.)to induce diabetes.
