At present,the state department of marine industries,marine scientific research department,and local government departments have to quickly obtain the marine environment information as a basis for research and behavioural decision-making.Because of the space exploration technology rapid development,the marine environment data to geometrically speed growth,which involves data not only extensive content,variety,and a large number of different time,different scales,different regions of the temporal and spatial data and non spatial data accumulation,has obvious dynamic,multi-dimensional,multi scale characteristics.Although the data access is growing,but the management and using of marine data and information mining and application has seriously lagged behind.According to the spatio-temporal data model,many scholars in different fields of application have did a large number of studies,but the existing spatio-temporal data models are mostly used in geology,mining,and other areas of the city,the most clear boundary,and in time dimension fewer changes in marine areas,suitable only for expression of Marine Geology,marine terrain,coastal islands and other aspects of the data.But the ocean is a dynamic,continuous,boundary fuzzy temporal information carrier,the existing spatio-temporal data model in the expression of ocean data problems,the existing models of the time is not strong,only recording one or a few moments of the state,time is not continuous,basically confined to GIS research category; the existing data model spatial continuity problems,ocean phenomena of boundary is fuzzy,but the land data boundary is generally mutation,clear.Temporal data model designed for the marine environment is an important part of GIS in the marine areas of expertise in applied research.
