The Tarim River is the principal and recognized longest continental river of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in the Peoples Republic of China. The riparian ecosystem in the well-known ‘Green Corridor’ of the lower reach of Tarim river ebbed constantly from 1950s as results of both developing agricultural cropland in the upper, middle and some part of lower reaches of the river and construction of the Dashkol Reservoir by blocking the stream in 1972.In 2000,the “Green Corridor” riparian ecosystem was temporally re-linked to its original water sources by initiating an “emergency ecological water transfusion project” after continuous disruption for 28 years. This paper analysed the process and trends of the vegetation changes during the period of intermittent water transfusion, based on multi-temporal remote sensing data.According to the acquisition time and quality of remote sensing images, the optimal China Brazil Earth Resource Satellite (CBERS) CCD images of each year have been chosen; the land-cover in each year was classified into vegetation and non-vegetation by the SAVI threshold respectively; then the change trajectory of each pixel for was constructed through image calculation between previous classified imageries.Based on the change trends of all potential 64 trajectories were characterized into five trends class as a) stable non-vegetation,b) stable vegetation,c) change into vegetation,d) change into non-vegetation and e)unstable changes.Based on the analysis of the spatial distribution of different change tendencies, and the change process discovered by the change trajectory; integrating the ground investigation,we inferred the vegetation composition during the study period and the reason of change. The result indicated that 7.94% of the study region shows the trends of changing to vegetation, resulted from the growth of herbage and refresh of weakened shrub; and only 2.66% change into non-vegetation; at the same time,10.43% present unstable change, due to the frangibility of vegetation.
