Integrated Research on Disaster Risk: Bridging research, policy, and practice

Integrated Research on Disaster Risk (IRDR) Programme,co-sponsored by the International Council for Science (ICSU),the International Social Science Council (ISSC),and the United Nations International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (UNISDR),has been developed to address research gaps,sliced approaches to research,and research to policy voids in a trans-disciplinary,global approach.This is being done through five initiatives -- Assessment of Integrated Research on Disaster Risk (AIRDR),Disaster Losses Data (DATA),Forensic Investigations of Disasters (FORIN),Risk Interpretation and Action (RIA),and Societal and Economic Research and Applications (SERA),each developed to address different aspects of disaster risk research.This panel will look at each initiative and how they integrate into existing activities.AIRDR is the first global,systematic and critical assessment on the integrated research on disaster risk by adopting a SWOT analysis.The AIRDR aims to determine the baseline of current integrated hazard research and to identify a list of priorities for scientific research community and funding organizations.
