Primary cardiac tumors are found in 0.01-0.19 % of unselected autopsy series and divided into benign (75%) and malignant (25%).Myxoma, a tumor of mesenchymal histogenesis, is the most common benign tumor, accounting for-3d50% of all benign cardiac tumors in adults, but only 15 % of benign tumors in childhood.The left atrium is the site of 75-83 % of all myxomas, of which 95% are solitary, most often affecting a middle-aged female.Five % of myxomas show a familiar pattern with autosomal dominance inheritance and patients more likely to be younger, with men as often affected as women.
