A framework for half autonomous conceptual development of multifunctional structure (MFS) is developed based on two mechanisms derived from the development of embryo of organisms:induction and gene transcription. The framework consists of 6 stages that are represented by 6 models:Function,Surrogate,Property,Specification,Feature and Parameter, which process is a simulation to the development of embryo. The induction from the Function model to the Property model is autonomously achieved based on rule-based reasoning.Gene transcription is half autonomously achieved through dual transformation.Weighted graph and weighted dual graph are used to represent design concepts. The framework provides a normative framework for the design of MFS.A design example of MFS is illustrated to demonstrate the application.
