Cultural capital theory(Bourdieu 1977)suggests that parents make concerted efforts to cultivate cultural values in their children(Lareau 2002)that are consistent with both educational and long-term success.Structured after school activities serve to assist parents with their efforts to transmit cultural capital to children(Dumais 2002).
