A multistate density functional theory(MSDFT) is described for study chemical reactions in macromolecular systems. Here,a large system is partitioned into molecular fragments where intermolecular interactions and electronic coupling are determined by constrained density functional theory. The method is illustrated by applications to the study of reaction mechanism and rate calculations on coupled electron and proton transfer reactions, and its application to reactions in combustion processes will be discussed.
