A precise diagnostic imaging is essential in the management of brain tumors.One should not only to detect the tumor, but to assess degree of its malignancy, probable histopathological diagnosis, the extent of tumor itself and surrounding edema, relationship between tumor and the adjacent anatomical structures, including eloquent areas.To obtain this information plain imaging studies: computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MR) should be supplemented by more sophisticated techniques, like perfusion CT (pCT), perfusion MR (pMR), diffusion MR (DWI), diffusion tensor imaging (DTI), MR spectroscopy (MRS), functional MR (fMRI), positron emission tomography (PET) and PET/CT fusion.
