Most of the currently applied regenerative medicine approaches rely on extrinsic vascularization of grafts.This could not be applied to reconstruction after cancer ablation and irradiation because of the resulting hypocellularity and hypoxic local environment.Our studies aimed at investigating the efficacy of inducing axial vascularization of synthetic bone substitutes to regenerate critical size mandibular defects in goats.
