The natural and fall-out radionuclides in offshore water and sediment in some parts of the Bay of Bengal were determined using high efficiency and high resolution coaxial germanium detector from March to October 2006.Assessment ofradionuclides concentration and their spatial distribution as well as comparison of the radioactivity level between water and sediment was the principal objectives of this study. In sediment, average activity of 238U, 232Th, 40K and 137Cs was recorded 31.24±5.75, 51.88±9.43, 686.43±170.47 and 0.52±0.61 Bq.kg-1, respectively on dry weight basis. In water, average activity of 238U, 232Th and 40K was 4.81±1.18, 5.43±1.23 and 39.054±8.64 Bq.l-1 respectively. The concentration of 137Cs in water sample was below detection limit.
