Natural products provide a great opportunity for the development of asymmetric catalysis.On the other hand,the development of asymmetric catalysis facilitates total synthesis of natural products.Described here is the development of catalytic enantioselective reactions for the assemblys of C3-chiral carbazolones and octahydroindolones,and the divergent total syntheses of Aspidosperma alkaloids and Amaryllidaceae alkaloids.
