Based on the 1°× 1° FNL reanalyses, the characteristics of hurricane Sandy extratropical transition in the 2012 Atlantic hurricane season are analyzed.Using thickness on low, middle and upper level in troposphere, thermal asymmetry of the extratropical transition system is illustrated directly.The interaction of a tropical system with a baroclinic trough can be estimated by the vorticity associated with the upper-level trough and cyclone, and the beginning of the extratropical transition process can be considered the approximate time the tropical system becomes absorbed into the 500mb stream.
