The Arabidopsis thaliana trichome development is a model system for studying cell development and differentiation as well as the cell cycle itself. Our previous studies have shown that the GIS family gene, G/S, GIS2 and ZFP8, control shoot maturation and epidermal cell fate by integrating gibberellins (GAs) and cytokinin signalling in Arabidopsis. Here, we show that new C2H2 Zinc Finger protein, GIS3, plays an important role in controlling trichome development through GA signalling.Overexpression GIS3 displayed ectopic trichome at carpels and other inflorescence organs.Loss of function of gis3 mutants exhibited a reduced number of trichome on sepals, cauline leaves, paraclades and main stem inflorescences in comparison to wild-type plants.Furthermore, we found that like other GIS family genes, GIS3 mediated the regulation expression patterns and the regional influence of GA on epidermal differentiation.Molecular analyses suggest that ZFP5 functions upstream of G/S, GIS2, ZFP8, while key trichome initiation regulator GL 1, GL3/EGL3 controls trichome development.
