  Trehalose is a new multi-functional disaccharide.Due to its ability to stabilize macromolecules,trehalose is widely applied in the food,cosmetic,and pharmaceutical industries,in everything ranging from sweeteners to biomaterial stabilizers.Trehalose synthase (TSase) is one of the pathways employed by organisms to synthesize trehalose.It catalyzes the reversible conversion of maltose into trehalose by intramolecular transglucosylation.A new recombinant Picrophilus torridus TSase (PTTS) is used in this research.
