The chilling train is an important part of ethylene plants and it consumes over 40％ of the refrigerating capacity of an ethylene plant.Therefore a great deal of attention has been paid to design and optimization of the chilling train section over the past years,due to its difficult and complex nature.Usually in a low-temperature process,such as the cold end of ethylene plant and LNG separation,there is the interaction between the heat exchangers network (HEN) and the refrigeration system.The modification on HEN of the chilling train for increasing energy recovery does not always coordinate with the minimum shaft work consumption of the corresponding refrigeration system [1].Hence,in this paper,a systematic approach of optimizing refrigeration system correlation with the chilling train in ethylene plants is presented based on the combination of pinch [2] and exergy analysis [3].
