Recent research has highlighted the importance of auxin(IAA) concentration in the dwarfing mechanisms of interstem.IAA content was extremely high in the bark of M9 interstem when compared with that of the scion and the rootstock, yet MdPINs expression in corresponding tissues was very low.Of the 13 members, MdPIN8,MdPIN10 and MdPIN13 were preferentially expressed in the phloem of the stem in M9 or Baleng Crab rootstock.To better understand the molecular role of MdPINs genes on interstem dwarfing, the expression of MdPIN8, MdPIN10 and MdPIN13 were measured in the scion,interstem or rootstock in Fuji/M9/Baleng Crab,the results show that only MdPIN8 was expressed significantly lower than that either in the scion or rootstock,and there was a robust expression of MdPIN8 in the phloem of M series dwarfing rootstocks and their derivatives such as M26,B9,GM256,MM106.
