The aim of this study to investigate correlation HbA1C levels with bone density in patient with type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM)at dr.Mohammad Hoesin Hospital(RSMH)Palembang from September 2014 until March 2015.This type of research is a correlative study with cross sectional design.Type 2 diabetes mellitus and osteoporosis are frequent and increasingly found in elderly population.Various studies have been conducted to determine the relationship between T2DM and low bone density and fracture risk in T2DM patients.Effect of hyperglycemia on the microvascular, osteoclasts and osteoblasts,as well as the formation of advanced glycation end products will affect the imbalance of bone remodelling.Result:Subject of the study consisted of 42 people, with decreased bone density as many as 22 people(52.4%)were 19 people osteopenia(45.2%)and 3 osteoporosis(7.1%),while the normal bone density were 20 people(47,6%).Mean HbA1C levels in the group of normal bone density, osteopenia, and osteoporosis respectively of 8.4%,9.2%and 7.6%.The Spearman test analysis of correlation between HbA1C levels with bone density are p = 0.4 and r = 0.122.Conclusion:No correlation between HbA1C with bone density in patients T2DM at internal medicine polyclinic of RSMH in Palembang.
