  Biomimetic porous chitosan microspheres(BPCM)with large specific surface area were successfully prepared via in-situ precipitation and freeze drying technology.The effects of concentration of chitosan solution,concentration of alkaline aqueous solution for precipitating chitosan,time of alkaline aqueous solution treatment and freeze drying temperature on the physical properties of BPCM were investigated.Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy,thermal gravimetric analysis and scanning electron microscopy were used to characterize the preparation of BPCM.Results showed that BPCM possessed high surface area,good mechanical stability,good hydrophilicity,and good adsorption of heavy metal ions such as Cu(Ⅱ).The biomimetic porous microspheres have good potentials in the applications of removing heavy metal ions from waste water.
