Polydisperse gas-solid flows arise in a number of important applications in the energy sciences, for example, fluidized-bed reactors used for coal and biomass gasification.Due to the distribution of particle sizes, temperatures, compositions, and velocities, it is natural to model these systems using a kinetic description involving a number density function defined on a high-dimensional phase space.
