Objective The aim of this study was to investigate the site-specific differences in risk of colon cancer (CRC).MethodsAnassociationstudy oftwoSNPswas performed on 160 CRC cases and 170 controls recruited from TaiZhou peoples hospital.ResultsThe rs4779584 T allele had an association with CRC risk,with the highest OR found for TT homozygous (OR=1.83;CI=1.18-2.84).Tumor location stratified analysis showed significant risk for rectal cancer compared to colon cancer for TT homozygous individuals (OR=1.88,CI=1.09-3.21,P=0.021).For the C allele of rs4444235,we found an association with CRC,with an OR of 2.53 (CI=1.41-4.58) for CC homozygous.At the same time,we found a greater risk for rectal cancer when compared to CRC for CC homozygous with an OR of 3.06 (CI=1.48-6.31.P=0.003).ConclusionCarriers of TT homozygous at rs4779584 and CC homozygous at rs4444235 had increased susceptibility to development of rectal cancer rather than colon cancer.
