Sino—UK Southwest Basic Education Project(SBEP)is all aiding educationproject for the poorest areas in Southwest of China,covering the poorest counties fromfour provinces,Guangxi,Yumaan,Guizhou and Sichuan,most of which are remote ethnicminority areas.The resulting of the baseline study of this project in 2007 shows that onthe one hand,there are at least one third of teachers are female in primary and secondaryschools,whose average qualification and capacities are higher than male colleagues;onthe other hand,the proportion of female head teachers is between one per cent and threeper cent.What are the factors that caused this gender inequity?
