The organic modified montmorillonite(MMT) was applied as an absorbent for the purification of bovine serum albumin (BSA).In order to identify the selectivity of BSA purification, two kinds of proteins, BSA and lysozyme, as an interference, are mixed together and adjusted to the different pH values of mixture, which can change the electrical charge on the surface of the proteins.BSA and lysozyme could be adsorbed from the protein mixture, after adjusted to low pH, by the organic modified montmorillonite, whether the adsorption of proteins as confirmed by powder X-ray diffraction(XRD).However, there is only BSA desorption, approved by the method of Sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS)-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (PAGE), from adsorbed proteins when change the pH of the solution.These results indicate that there is the electrostatic interaction between a suitable modified montmorillonite and proteins.
