A major cost of current reverse osmosis installations belongs to pretreatment,especially when using surface water as feed.Although,the reverse osmosis elements can reject all types of harmful substances from surface water,the pretreatment steps are applied to prevent rapid fouling and consequently,frequent replacement of these elements.The nature and rate of the fouling,as an inevitable event,differs with the design of pretreatment steps.
