The evolution of insecticide resistance among agricultural pests is a major concern, particularly in tropical regions where crops can be grown all year round.Molecular genetic strategies can be used to identify candidate genes that may cause insecticide resistance,in order to understand the complex cellular strategies that target pests use to evade death.High-throughput sequencing now offers opportunities to build upon classic genetic approaches,to rapidly identify genomic regions that cause resistance to specific insecticides or other phenotypic traits.
