　　We incorporate environmental stochasticity into the formulation of standardcontinuous time Markov chain model of SIS type for the transmission of an infectiousdisease.We derive and investigate the associated master equations andshow that the disease-free state is no longer absorbing and a positive equilibrium distribution exists and is globally stable.
