Bacterial persister is a sub-group of special population of bacteria, and has the distinction marks from the ordinary bacteria and resistant mutants. The presence of persister is believed to be closely associated with the recalcitrance and recurrence of chronic infections, and also can increase the prevalence of multidrug-resistant bacteria and extensive resistance mutation.
