　　Glycyrrhiza species or Licorice (Gancao), a common and most prescribed herb in China, has been used for immunododulation, treatment of cancer and other diseases; however, its mechanism in treatment of cancer is not well known.In this study, we investigate its effect on IL 7 gene expression and secretion in mice intestinal epithelial cell line and in BALB/c colon tumor mice model.Ethanol extracts were obtained from dried roots of Glycyrrhiza and fractionated into polysaccharides of different molecular weight.Cell cytotoxicity as well as tumorigenesis studies were carried out to evaluate the antitumor effect in vitro and in vivo.
