Phenomics involves the systematic characterisation of phenotypes on a genome-wide scale. It is transdisciplinary, calling upon a range of approaches and experimental techniques to better understand gene functionand discover new links between genes and disease. The Australian Phenomics Network (APN) wasestablished in 2007 with Australian Commonwealth and state government funding, together with contributions fromour network partner institutions to gather under one banner a critical mass of expertise and the infrastructure to provide research services to biologists and clinicians. The APNs suite of services is provided through a distributed network of 12 Australian facilities and institutions to create, characterise and cryopreserve mouse strains in a centralised manner.
