Stem cells reside in a specialized microenvironment, or niche, which provides physical contact and signals that regulate stem cells.We have previously shown that insulin/FOXO-mediated signaling not only directly controls Drosophila ovarian germline stem cell (GSC) division, but also regulates Notch activation to maintain GSC niche via Fringe, a glyeosyltransferase that modulates Notch glycosylation.
