Sterile fish are desirable in aquaculture as they cannot reproduce and grow faster than fertile individuals. We developed a new method to produce sterile Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) by heat treatment and demonstrate their potential for aquaculture.Permanent sterility was induced by treating 9 days after hatching (dah) all-female juveniles at 37 ℃ for 40 days. The survival of sterile fish during heat treatment (90%) was not significantly different from normal fish (95 %).
