A glass product is used in all around us where it is not only in plain view like a window for building and automobile, but also in wide variety of unnoticed parts,e.g.substrate for display, electronic and telecommunication components and fiber into plastic.For further expansion of glass market in the future, it is necessary to proactive-approach into future application by development of glass that take advantage of optical functions and glass-ceramics with new functions by design of material and process.For example, Nippon Electric Glass (NEG) group has developed ultra-thin sheet glass.It shows superior properties from resin films, particularly in terms of thermal stability, gas barrier property, and weather resistance, while it can be handled as flexible film state.The glass has created prototypes of flexible organic EL displays/lighting devices, and it has been expected to be used in further wide variety of application in electronics, energy, and medical application.Other updated our product is precise zero-thermal expansion glass-ceramics.We have developed it by optimization of mother glass composition in Li2O-Al2O3-SiO2 system and extremely accurate heating control during the crystallization process.Average thermal expansion coefficient from-40 to 80℃ is 0 × 107/℃ and it is worthy of attention that the maximum expansion minus minimum expansion is only 2ppm in the temperature range.This glass-ceramics has been expected to be adopted in telecommunication components and laser devices.
