The hippocampus plays important role in memory formation and spatial navigation.GHS-R1a,the only identified receptor for orexigenic peptide hormone ghrelin, was found to be highly expressed in hippocampal neurons. Our previous study showed that ghrelin micro-infusion into hippocampus impairs memory acquisition and GHS-R1a KO mice exhibits enhanced spatial memory, indicating the inhibition of ghrelin/GHS-R1a signaling on memory.
