The P-T boundary section in Xiushui, Jiangxi Province, South China comprises a layer of foraminifer grainstone several meter thick, an overlying interval of microbialites 2 m thick, a succeeding layer of bioclastic grainstone 1 m thick, and the above thick interval of unfossilferous micritic limestone more than 2 m thick.The foraminifer grainstone contains fusulinids and foraminifers of Upper Permian age, representing pre-extinction deposits.The microbialites are mainly composed of cast fossils of cyanobacteriurn Microcystis, a coccoid planktonic blue alga, whose colonies formed algal blooms at that time (Wu et al., 2014).
