Content: Myxobacteria are social bacteria, and the social behaviors, such as Smotility and fruiting body development, occur within the same lineages.However, culture-independent investigations indicate that many different species and strains of myxobacteria can co-exist in a spoonful of soil.Assays on the 16S rRNA from environmental RNA indicated that many of these myxobacterial eco-types were metabolically active simultaneously.
