Initial exposure to lipopolysaccharide (LPS) induces endotoxin tolerance, a transient tolerance to subsequent LPS challenge.Negative regulators induced by initial LPS has been proposed to play key roles in establishing endotoxin tolerance by suppressing NF-κB activity and proinflammatory cytokine synthesis to subsequent LPS stimulation.
