Background: Both MMPI-A and MMPI-2 are most widely used psychological assessment tools in Korea.In this study, their clinical usage in assessing suicide risk was discussed.Methods: 380 high school students and 210 college students in Korea were participated in this study.Both correlation analysis and regression analysis were conducted in order to identify significant scales of MMPI-A and MMPI-2 in relation to suicide risk.Results: In MMPI-A (for adolescents), Clinical scale of Schizophrenia (SC), Contents scale of Depression (Dep) were identified as significant scale in relation to suicide risk.In MMPI-2(for adults), Clinical scale of Schizophrenia(SC), Contents scale of Depression(Dep), Supplementary scale of Anxiety(A) were identified as significant scale in relation to suicide risk.Gender differences and developmental differences (high school students vs.college students) were also revealed.Conclusion: Both MMPI-A and MMPI-2 are most widely used assessment tools in Korea.In this study, it was discussed how to use these assessments in evaluating ones suicide risk.Along with Depression scale, Schizophrenia scale (SC) and anxiety scale (A) were also identified as significant scale in relation to suicide risk.
