Detection of Salbutamol in some cough preparations of Traditional Chinese Medicine by HPLC

　　Objective: To establish HPLC method for the determination of cough medicines Salbutamol mixed illegally in some cough preparations of Traditional Chinese Medicine.Methods: The content of Salbutamol was determined by HPLC on Agilent C18 (4.6mm×15Omm, 5μm) with methanol-0.01mol/L potassium dihydrogen phosphate (phosphoric acid to adjust pH3.0) =5∶95 (Ⅴ/Ⅴ) as a mobile phase.According to the detected compound retention time, compared with the reference substance, the chemical drug Salbutamol is identified that is mixed illegally into TCM preparation.Results: The conditions established in this study could entirely separate from the cough medicine Salbutamol added into TCM preparation.Using this method to detect 20 kinds of preparations and compared with the corresponding standard substances, Salbutamol is not obtained with the 20 kinds of samples.Conclusion: The method is selective, sensitive and can be used as an effective means to detect illegal TCM preparation.
