Objective Experiments in animal models have demonstrated that several age-related pathologies can be prevented or slowed down by caloric restriction (CR).Neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimers diseases (AD) are common examples of aging of the nervous system.CR can resist neuronal damage and consequently offer protection against neurodegenerative diseases. Some evidence suggests that CR may benefit neurons by impinging upon fundamental metabolic and cellular signaling pathways that regulate lifespan.
