This course will briefly review principles of x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), infrared spectroscopy (specular reflection and attenuated total reflection), and sum frequency generation (SFG) vibrational spectroscopy and discuss examples of applying these techniques to investigate elemental composition, structural networks, and functional groups at/in surfaces of multicomponent silicate glasses.Key information that can be obtained and technical limitations will be discussed for each technique.
